Texas hold’em poker is played with a standard 52-card deck and is commonly played between two and 10 players. The object of the game is to be declared the winner and collect the chips that were placed in the “pot.” The game requires a dealer (D), a small blind (SB), and a big blind (BB) player. Each player is dealt two cards facedown, and then five community cards are dealt in stages, faceup,
in the middle of the table. After each stage, a round of betting occurs.

  1. Each player is dealt two cards facedown, known as “pocket cards” or “holecards.”
The next phase involves the dealing of five “community cards” faceup in the
middle of the table, known as “the board.”
  2. Three cards are dealt faceup, known as the “flop.”
  3. A fourth card is dealt faceup, known as the “turn.”
  4. The fifth and final card exposed faceup is known as the “river.”

Players must make the best five-card poker hand by using any combination from the seven cards available. Each player can use one, both, or neither of his holecards to make his five-card poker hand. The last player remaining with cards or the player with the best hand is awarded the pot.
